Hello world!

By gerryhunter

Well, I don’t know about the world part, but to whoever passes by, Hi.

I’ve done this before, writing on the web.  Anglican friends (and enemies) heard quite a bit from me when I worshipped among them.  But the truth is that since I returned home to Rome, I’ve been very, very lazy.  I haven’t bothered writing much, and there’s no lack of things to write about.  Besides, Binky the Bold bestowed on me the Special Certificate of Webelf for Life, so I have a certain responsibility to him and his brave band to remain a credit to the ilk.  So, here’s hoping this entrance into WordPress will spur me on.

Now about the theme of the blog, as reflected in its title.  “Letters From Behind the Lines” is a reference to a quote from C.S. Lewis in “Mere Christianity.”  He wrote:

Enemy-occupied territory – that is what the world is. … When you go to church you are really listening-in to the secret wireless from our friends:  that is why the enemy is so anxious to prevent us from going.

People these days wonder what Christians have in common, one with another.  Well, if they take their faith seriously, let it be a part of the drive mechanism of their lives, rather than just a hood ornament, or a spiritual version of a community service club, they have that.  They are, and soon realize they are, in enemy occupied territory.  I adopted this writing schema as a vehicle to explore that situation, and what goes on around the Christian “behind the lines.”  That’s what I want to do here.

I’ve done this before, as I said.  If you’re at all interested in my past efforts, they’re still on line, along with some earlier “letters”.  You can find them at:  http://www3.telus.net/gerry_hunter/

I’ll be in touch.
